چکیده

Heavy-ion reactions provide a unique means to investigate the equation of state (EOS) of neutron-rich nuclear matter, especially the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energyEsym(ρ). The latter plays an important role in understanding many key issues in both nuclear physics and astrophysics. Recent analyses of heavy-ion reactions have already put a stringent constraint on the Esym(ρ) around the saturation density. This subsequently allowed us to constrain significantly the radii and cooling mechanisms of neutron stars as well as the possible changing rate of the gravitational constant G. Properties of effective interactions in neutron-rich matter are reflected in the medium’s equation of state (EOS), which is a relationship among several state variables. Spin and isospin asymmetries play an important role in the energy balance and could alter the stability conditions of the nuclear EOS. The EOS has far-reaching consequences for numerous nuclear processes in both the terrestrial...

Constraining the Radii of Neutron Stars with Terrestrial Nuclear Laboratory Data

Neutron star radii are primarily determined by the pressure of isospin asymmetric matter which is proportional to the slope of the nuclear symmetry energy. Available terrestrial laboratory data on the isospin diffusion in heavy-ion reactions at intermediate energies constrain the slope of the symmetry energy. Using this constraint, we show that the radius (radiation radius) of a 1.4 solar mass ...

Constraining a possible time variation of the gravitational constant G with terrestrial nuclear laboratory data

Testing the constancy of the gravitational constant G is a longstanding fundamental question in natural science. As first suggested by Jofré, Reisenegger and Fernández [1], Dirac’s hypothesis of a decreasing gravitational constant G with time due to the expansion of the Universe would induce changes in the composition of neutron stars, causing dissipation and internal heating. Eventually, neutr...

Constraining properties of rapidly rotating neutron stars using data from heavy-ion collisions

Properties, structure, and thermal evolution of neutron stars are determined by the equation of state of stellar matter. Recent data on isospin-diffusion and isoscaling in heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies as well as the size of neutron skin in Pb have constrained considerably the density dependence of the nuclear symmetry energy and, in turn, the equation of state of neutron-rich n...

Heavy Quarks or Compactified Extra Dimensions in the Core of Hybrid Stars

Neutron stars with extremely high central energy density are natural laboratories to investigate the appearance and the properties of compactified extra dimensions with small compactification radius, if they exist. Using the same formalism, these exotic hybrid stars can be described as neutron stars with quark core, where the high energy density allows the presence of heavy quarks (c, b, t). We...
